How i keep my Lego figure

Hi guys. I would like to share on how i display my collection of Lego minifigures.. and maybe secret stash to Lego set inside my house. Nah, joking.. I won't show you what Lego set that i have coz it's only a teeny weeny collection, too small that makes me feel embarrassed to share with you guys. I only restart buying lego in 2013, after a long pause since 1993 (when i'm 10 years old and still asking my parents to buy them for me). Thus i had missed so many interesting lego sets within that period, mostly from the Star Wars UCS, and the first 3 modular (Green Grocer, Cafe Corner and Market Street). However, nothing i can do during that period. I'm busy growing up lol, I went to the boarding school and uni, then chasing a career, then get married with my other half and having kids.. It's not a phase for me to spend money lol.

Anyway, I hide Lego mostly from my 4yo and 3yo sons, but for some lego set (UCS and modular), i hide them from my wife. ;-).

I just live in small 22ft x 75ft terrace house so i'm very selective in which set to open and assemble. I don't have dedicated room/space in my house to display my lego so if i don't have any place to display it, i have to unassemble them and put them in container. Another reason is because my 4yo and 3yo sons are both too small to handle small Lego bricks. So i will wait for some more years to open the set with them and when that time comes, i will definitely convert one of the room in the house to occupy those lego set. Oh, i'm into modular and Star Wars sets actually.. =)

Okay, let's go back to reality. =p. I don't mix original lego with imitation. Well, that's the riskiest thing to do because i will have a very hard time to differentiate them. It's doable but i'm gonna need a very big magnifying glass and maybe a few extra pair of eyes.

Currently i display some of original lego minifigures in this small case that i bought from Daiso (it's Japanese shop selling stuff at RM5 each. anything you can find in the store, it's RM5 each (USD1.5).

Some Daiso branch also have item priced more than RM5 each. I got bigger case below for RM15 each:

Collectible minifigures (CMF) are among the earliest that i have so i spent extra attention when i got them. I DIY a stage made of styrofoam. This is how they look like:

To protect them from dust, and kids =p, i keep them in closed cabinet, far out of reach from those little guys.

Pity them right? Too crowded and such a narrow space too. For now i only granted with 2 sections. I might hijack the other 3 cabinet next to it so that i can display them properly, no need to block some display case at the back.

I also keep some fav figure in ikea frame: (mostly Star Wars minifigure)

Custom made acrylic case? Tried it but kinda expensive so i don't have many like this:

For fake/clone lego, my collection grows rapidly. So i definitely cannot use any means that i use to display my original lego. So using fake lego baseplate and some fake lego bricks, i build this tower:

Any guess where i keep 'em?

I keep them in one of empty cupboard in my guest room. Blocked with large paper bag that i use to keep their folded box so that my kids wont see them when they open the cupboard.

Convenient level = Zero, especially when i have to take out some figure to compare with newer figure that i just bought.

For easier access, I'm planning to display these clone lego like this:

Instead using lego plate, you also can use 1 x 2 brick but some figure is not suitable using this method:

Figure with cape and figure that do not have normal leg structure (in this example; astromech) thus cannot be attached to the brick. So if i'm gonna stick that baseplate at the wall or in the frame, i prefer to use lego plate instead of this lego brick.

Of course the ultimate display frame will look like this: lol

I will definitely have one like this in few years time, possibly when my kids know how to appreciate these lego minifigures instead of torturing them until some will loose body parts =p.

Keep up the good work bro! Ur effort in sharing info/knowledge is definitely commendable. Some 'collectors' out there only know how to brag their 'humble haul' everytime they purchase LEGO, so called purist. Know that there are lots of us out there who appreciate your work & do keep it up!

    1. =) I'm flattered. Really. Ahahaha.. New Lego sets usually arrived Malaysia weeks or even months after they are available in US. Most of extreme Malaysian AFOL would spent premium to become the first to own them but i dont have such money to become one of them. By the time i do a review on thoese Lego sets, nobody interested with them anymore. Thats why i do review on those clone brand. Im still not the first to get those clone figure but they are cheap =)

    1. Hi there. I bought the case fron Daiso Japan shop. The outlet is everywhere (i just check their store location here: http://www.daisoglobal.com/store/). I hope price in those store is cheaper compared to amazon price. Found one of the case on amazon at amazingly ridicoulous price here O_o http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00EXBWCQW/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1417443058&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX200_QL40

    1. Hi, im sure your collection will look extra exclusive. I once tried with family of superman. 2 superman variant, clark kent and Jor-el minifigure. Only one line of minifgures in 23cm x 23 cm frame. The combination give extra exclusive and limited edition looks but after few months, i add in other figures too. I run out of space to display my minifigures ahaha..

  10. seriously coolest collection ever. I also collect toys but like you said having a family to feed , it is not very convenient to keep this hobby. I love lego, when i was kid, i did asked from my parents and they did bought 1 or 2 set of small vehicle lego for me. Because lego was soo expensive, over the years i lost interest in them until just recently i discovered the knock off lego for marvel superheroes. BTW I'm also DHF of marvels and even though their comics are expensive my father keep buying them to encourage me reading and until i grown up i collect marvel comics book. And then I discovered your blog. Being following them ever since (actually it was just this year that i stumbled upon your blog) Your review on bootleg lego inspired me. I started collecting iron man mini figures & stuff. Any way keep doing what you doing man. Really cool collection :)

    1. Hey thanks for your comment =). Im glad that some of pictures in this blog could boost your interest in those tiny figure. Yeah, they are not cheap. In Malaysia, it all start with that lego shell promotion, ya? Those polybag is affordable but not lego box set. We dont get privilege like others in US, UK and other country to get good stuff such as free polybag, cheap lego price, let alone chances to get SDCC lego figure. for some people, its impossible to buy some set/character. I have no comment on moral values abt producing/selling/buying these clone brand. Every person have their own reason for their action, ya? =)

  11. Hi bro !

So you only collect minifigures, or buildings and vehicles too ? Because for me, Lego is not only minifigures, the setting offered by the set is very important for the atmosphere.

    1. Yeah, i collect some lego set too. Mainly building related theme because its perfect to minifigure scale. Yup, i agree with your statement. Lego minifigure blend better in lego related prop =)

    1. Hi @ochuisang. i'm sorry that i took very long time to reply to your comment. maybe you already found the answer by now. They are 2 type of Daiso store. One that sell EVERYTHING at RM5.30 and another one that sell stuff at variable price. I noticed their shop color is diff - Green and Red but i couldn't remember which is which.

  14. Hi there! Amazing collection! I'm trying to find a better balance of display and play for my growing collection of figurines. I wanted to know how you keep your figurines stable in the Daiso collection boxes? It's so frustrating when you have everything the way you want to display them and they topple over before you even transfer the case to the right location. My collection consists of Kidrobot Dunnys, Tokidoki figures, Re-ments and other odds and ends. Thanks again for sharing! :)

    1. Hi @Jennifer Jean Lee. sorry that it took me a while to reply. wow, you have such a wonderful collections. i'm in love just by hearing the name (and after some googling lol). they are cute! and expensive too (^_^)". It's hard to get them in my country. For lego, i just use double tape at their feet to make them stick to the base but for your collection, i'm not sure if the double tape is strong enough to hold them

    2. Thank you for taking the time to reply! I'm going to try the double tape method and I found something called museum putty and hope that does the trick without damaging the figurines! Thanks again!!
