Sheng Yuan SY 256 The Simpsons

My favourite TV Series of all time. Watched all 26 series.. yup, every single one of them.. and to date Lego only issued 2 sets for this theme - 71006 The Simpsons House and The Simpsons Collectible Minifigures.

source: Bricklink

...and look at what SY try to imitate here:

I don't usually assemble the bricks included in the box but for this set, they are the accessories and each character have different build.

For comparison, lets put aside all the bricks/accessories:

Please note that we have 2 different Lego variant of each figure (except Nelson and Milhouse; they only come from Collectible Minifigures set)

minifigures from 71006 The Simpsons House

minifigures from The Simpsons Collectible Minifigures

I will have the figures assembled in this order for the comparison: Sheng Yuan's (left), minifigures from The Simpsons Collectible (center) and minifigures from The Simpsons House (right). You will find that for SY figure, they mix the body parts. Some character will have head from Lego Collectible Minifigures but torso of minifigures from Simpsons House and vice versa.

As expected from Sheng Yuan, they always don't bother to paint the arm.. so all the figures (Bart, Homer, Nelson, Milhouse) looks like they are wearing sleeveless shirt. I'm very sure SY can do it (print/paint the arm) just like they did on Drax from SY 257 Guardians of The Galaxy but for these Simpsons figure, no paint/printing on the arm of all the figures.

I also think its kinda weird for Maggie to have short leg, same design with Bart, Nelson and Milhouse because she's still a baby =p. In Simpsons TV Series, Maggie don't walk, but crawl. lol

Oh hey, one more thing. I know some of you guys like the usual SY's movable  short leg but for this series, SY use the same leg assemble with Lego - fix and unmovable.

I'll have another set of clone Simpsons figure by JLB to review soon!

    1. Its the same with lego superboy. Already have SY's superboy a few months back http://mybrickstore.blogspot.com/2014/10/young-justice-by-sheng-yuan.html?m=1 and now waiting my original levo superboy to arrive. They look almost same but for SY as expected, without paint on the arm. Maybe SY purposely done that to be a good guy? Lol

  2. The mini builds that come with these are pretty fun looking! Also, it's pretty odd that Maggie comes with Flounder (from the Little Mermaid) and Lisa comes with one of the bears from the movie Brave.

    1. Hey i just notice that. Thats very cute bear.. Very much like one of the bear in Brave and i didnt know that fish got name. I wonder if they are actually from any real lego set.

  3. Very lazy of SY this batch of minifig. Not only do they not print the sleeves ... they don't even bother printing the backs. Disappointed.

    1. Yeah, the figure already simple enough. Very plain design on front and rear torso/leg but i guess the process to print/paint them is the same if the design is a bit more complex

  4. Hi bro, you conviced me !

I thought this was a good set, but the issues (no sleves for the t-shirts, Maggie's legs and Marge's green bottom and white top) are too important for me.

    1. Hi @Julian =). Unless Decool decide to imitate this set too.. Then there's chances we will have knock off figure with printed sleves. Well, there's 6 figure in this simpons house, so the number just match with the numbers of minifigure Decool released in set. =p

  6. Hi nice post! But to be precise, the minifigs starting from Simpson series with more than a single coloured arm, are not really printed, but are moulded with 2 (or more) different colour of their plastics. Meaning its more of like a joint of 2 (or more) different coloured plastic to make that arm with sleeves. It's a new method they develop. Pretty cool eh! :)

And another thing I also notice SY's Simpsons are of a lighter shade of yellow. :)

    1. If you look very closely at the "sleeves", you will know what I mean! :)
Some minifigs in series 12 also comes with these dual-moulded arms (and future series I reckon!)

    3. Hmm interesting ... something I'd never have notice.

I don't collect minifigs, not LEGO ones especially. It's too expensive for me. But I appreciate LEGO doing that. Putting in the extra effort and giving consumers more quality minifigs. That's always right.

And I don't expect bootlegs to follow that technique anytime soon.

  7. Hi @vince. Wow. Just wow. This is the first time i hear about it too. Maybe lego want to create better high quality figure and yeah, i agree with @apodistagon. These clone brand wont bother with such technique because they can get it done with just paint the surface..

Anyway, i wish i have extra arm of lego simpsons figure so that i can operate them and see myself that 2 seperate mould joint together for one part.

    1. Yeah, I appreciate Lego doing that as well! I guess it's their move towards edging out the bootlegs, and quite an effective one at that! :)
But bootlegs are still the much cheaper alternatives to SDCC exclusives and customized third party characters that Lego might never release.. lol!
